RIYADH: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met US Senator Chris Murphy in Riyadh on Monday, where they discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the longstanding ties between Saudi Arabia and the United States and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, according to SPA.
Murphy, a Democratic senator from Connecticut, serves on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Senate Appropriations Committee.
The meeting comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, including renewed fighting in Yemen and threats to maritime security in key regional waterways.
Saudi Arabia has in recent days reiterated its support for Yemen’s internationally recognized government after its forces launched a new military campaign aimed at retaking territory controlled by the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
Riyadh has also vowed to respond to Houthi attacks targeting the Kingdom while continuing to support diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions.
The meeting was attended by Saudi Ambassador to the US Princess Reema bint Bandar, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and National Security Adviser Musaad al-Aiban, SPA said.
