LAHORE, AUG 08 (APP/DNA):Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq on Thursday directed the waste management
companies to conduct special campaigns to increase public awareness regarding zero-waste
environment.
During a video link meeting of the CEOs of waste management companies across the province held at
the Civil Secretariat, the minister reviewed the plan for an efficient and sustainable sanitation system
in the province.
Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmad Mian, Additional Secretary Maria Tariq also attended
the meeting. The CEOs of the companies informed about progress made so far in
their respective areas.
Minister Zeeshan Rafiq said that it was the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to implement
a uniform sanitation system throughout Punjab. “A large proportion of the population resides in rural
areas, so it is not possible to achieve sanitation targets by neglecting villages”, he added.
Zeeshan Rafiq said that sanitation challenges could be tackled through outsourcing system.
“After studying the successful systems of the world, we are bringing a pilot project in Punjab”, he
elaborated.
The minister directed that the waste management companies should complete the process of outsourcing according to the time frame and the goals set by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif should be achieved accordingly.
