KABUL, OCT 20: Khubaib Ghufran, spokesperson for the Ministry of Information and Culture, has announced that the fourth regular meeting of the Commission for Naming Sacred Places was held under the chairmanship of Atiqullah Azizi, the Deputy Minister for Arts and Culture at the ministry.
Ghufran stated that during this meeting it was decided that newly opened roads and intersections would be named based on religious and national values.
He said: “This commission, in its meetings, reviews the naming of new places such as roads and intersections in light of the policies of the Islamic Emirate and traditional culture, and also addresses public requests for renaming places.”
Some residents of Kabul have expressed different opinions about the renaming of intersections.
Abdul Hai Mohammadi, a Kabul resident, said: “The positive side of these changes is that the intersections, which were named arbitrarily, are now being renamed with cultural significance. However, on the other hand, some people who are accustomed to the old names may face confusion in navigating.”
Mohammad Daoud, a resident of Takhar, remarked: “Many intersections are named after individuals. I would be happy if an intersection were to be named with a religious and Islamic title.”
In previous meetings of this commission, the names of several intersections in Kabul were also changed, such as renaming Deh Afghanan Intersection to Farhang Intersection.
