Moon not sighted: Safar to start on Sunday in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, JUL 25: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Friday evening that the moon marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Safar 1447 AH was not sighted anywhere in the country.

As a result, the first day of Safar will be observed on Sunday, July 27.

The official announcement came following a key meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee held in Lahore, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. Simultaneously, zonal committee meetings were conducted across the country, including in Islamabad, to collect evidence of moon sighting.

“No credible reports or evidence of the moon sighting were received from any part of the country,” said Maulana Azad. “Hence, by Islamic tradition, the current month of Muharram will complete 30 days.”

An astronomer had also noted earlier that the chances of moon sighting were slim due to unfavourable visibility conditions.
