LAHORE, DEC 2 /DNA/ – The 8th Maritime Security Workshop (MARSEW-8) commenced at Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore. The workshop was formally inaugurated by Commandant Pakistan Navy War College, Rear Admiral Sohail Ahmad Azmie.
In his welcome address, Rear Admiral Sohail Ahmad Azmie underscored the strategic importance of harnessing Pakistan’s maritime potential in the evolving global landscape. He noted that since its inception in 2017, MARSEW has matured into a premier national forum for knowledge sharing and continues to support a whole-of-nation approach towards strengthening the maritime sector and blue economy of Pakistan.
Organized under the auspices of Pakistan Navy, MARSEW-8 aims to advance strategic understanding of contemporary maritime security dynamics and enhance national awareness of Pakistan’s blue economy potential. The platform brings together parliamentarians, policymakers, senior civil and military leadership, academia, media professionals, entrepreneurs and business community to promote inclusive dialogue and cross-sectoral collaboration and explore innovative policy pathways for sustainable ocean governance.
The workshop is scheduled from 2-12 Dec 25. It will include interactive sessions in Lahore which will be followed by field visits to major Pakistan Navy installations in Karachi, Coastal and Creeks areas. The participants will also visit Naval Headquarters, National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) and Ministry of Maritime Affairs (MoMA), Islamabad. MARSEW-8 will examine key themes including maritime awareness, coastal development, marine resource security, critical undersea infrastructure, international maritime law and the role of maritime sector in national resilience.
