No tolerance for any illegal tree cutting in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Jan 11 (APP/DNA): Minister of State for Climate Change, Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali Sunday underlined Islamabad’s need for localized tree plantation, adding that any negligence resulting in tree loss will be dealt with through strict inquiry under the Prime Minister’s instructions.

While speaking exclusively to a local news channel about the recent tree-cutting concerns in Islamabad, the state minister emphasized that the protection of trees in Islamabad was non-negotiable, stressing that any illegal tree cutting would not be tolerated and would be strictly punished. The government is fully committed to preserving the city’s green cover and upholding environmental laws, she said, emphasizing that illegal tree cutting is a criminal act that will not be tolerated, she said.

Shezra Mansab Ali acknowledged that some tree removals were occasionally necessary for instance, to address pollen-related issues reported by citizens. She noted that the authorities aimed to balance public health concerns with environmental preservation. At the same time, she emphasized that any tree removed in the name of development without proper authorization would be subject to strict inquiry and accountability under the Prime Minister’s instructions.

Dr. Mansab Ali underlined the government’s commitment to protecting Islamabad’s green spaces and ensuring sustainable urban development. She mentioned that for every tree planted, 3 to 10 localized trees naturally grow behind it, which was essential for the environment, but any illegal cutting of trees would not be tolerated.

Responding a query , She further explained that most of the trees removed were paper mulberry, which can trigger allergies and added that a thorough inquiry was underway to confirm the exact numbers and understand the reasons for their removal, ensuring both public health and environmental protection are considered.

She said that a large-scale tree plantation drive was a key focus of the government, emphasizing the vital importance of trees for the environment, public health and Islamabad’s green cover and reaffirmed the commitment to protect and expand urban greenery for the benefit of all citizens.
