BAKU: Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, held a productive bilateral meeting with Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, on the sidelines of the International Parliamentary Conference marking the 30th anniversary of the adoption of Azerbaijan’s Constitution.
During the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening parliamentary cooperation and enhancing the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. They highlighted the historic and brotherly ties that exist between the two nations, rooted in mutual respect, shared values, and consistent support for each other at regional and international forums.
Chairman Gilani congratulated the people and government of Azerbaijan on the 30th anniversary of their Constitution, praising the country’s remarkable progress under its constitutional framework. He emphasized Pakistan’s strong desire to expand cooperation in various fields, including trade, energy, education, defense, and culture, through more frequent exchanges between parliamentary delegations.
Speaker Gafarova expressed her gratitude for Pakistan’s steadfast support to Azerbaijan, particularly during and after the 2020 Patriotic War, reiterating that Azerbaijan values Pakistan as a trusted partner and brotherly nation. She noted that parliamentary diplomacy serves as a vital bridge to further strengthen bilateral relations and promote collaboration in international legislative platforms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Economic Cooperation Organization Parliamentary Assembly (ECO-PA).
Both sides also discussed enhancing people-to-people ties, youth engagement, and cultural exchanges to foster greater understanding and solidarity between the two countries.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to continue working closely for peace, prosperity, and development in their respective regions and to advance cooperation between the parliaments of Pakistan and Azerbaijan for mutual benefit and regional stability.
