Pakistan High Commission Canada marks Kashmir Solidarity Day

OTTAWA: FEB 5 (DNA):The Pakistan High Commission in Ottawa and its three Consulates in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal commemorated the Kashmir Solidarity Day, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) in their just struggle for self-determination. On this occasion, a series of programmes were arranged including pictorial exhibitions, documentary screening and media interactions to highlight the human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir and to express solidarity with Kashmiris facing the worst kind of oppression under illegal Indian occupation.

A special event was held at the High Commission attended by members of the Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora, media, academics, and human rights activists.  On this occasion, messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out to the audience. Moreover, various documentaries on Kashmiris’ struggle were screened and broadcast on the social and local electronic media. High Commissioner of Pakistan Mr. Muhammad Saleem highlighted the Indian brazenness subjecting the defenceless Kashmiris to endless atrocities.

In a video message, the High Commissioner also reiterated that international human rights organizations, the media as well as UN human rights mechanisms, have been unanimous in their condemnation of India’s illegal and inhuman actions IIOJK. He underscored that IIOJK was the most militarised region in the world. He called upon the international community to stop India of massive violations of human rights in IIOJK, rescind the unilateral and illegal measures and implement the United Nations’ 13 Resolutions. There is a need for concerted efforts to mobilize international public opinion that this protracted conflict cannot be addressed without granting right to self-determination to the people of Kashmir, he added.
