LAHORE, APR 7 /DNA/ – The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Tuesday announced a major restructuring of its selection and coaching setup, appointing a new National Selection Committee (NSC) and naming separate head coaches for the senior, junior, and U-18 national teams.
According to an official notification issued by PHF Secretary General Syed Shakeel Shah, the appointments have been made with immediate effect following recommendations from the PHF Professional Development Committee (PDC).
Legendary former Olympian Mr. Samiullah Khan – famously known as the “Flying Horse” – has been appointed as the Chairman of Selectors. He will head a six-member selection committee, which includes:
- Mr. Naeem Akhtar
- Mr. Kashif Jawad
- Mr. Muhammad Khalid
- Mr. Atif Bashir
- Mr. Nasir Ali
As per the newly approved Terms of Reference (TORs), the head coach of each respective team will also serve as a member of the NSC during the selection process for their team.
Separate Head Coaches Appointed for Three Teams
In a move aimed at specialized coaching across different age groups, the PHF has appointed three distinct head coaches:
- Pakistan Senior Team: Mr. Manzoor ul Hassan
- Pakistan Junior Team: Mr. Ayaz Mehmood
- Pakistan U-18 Team: Mr. Qamar Ibrahim
The notification, signed by Capt. Farrukh Atiq Khan (Retd.) on behalf of the federation, states that the appointments have been made under the authority of PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani. Copies of the notification have been sent to the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination, the Pakistan Sports Board, provincial hockey associations, and the Pakistan Olympic Association.

The PHF has expressed hope that the new leadership and selection structure will help revive Pakistan’s dwindling fortunes in international hockey.
