Pakistan has strongly condemned the Houthi militia attack on Taibah power distribution station in Madina, calling it a “grave provocation”.
“This reprehensible attack against civilian infrastructure supplying electricity to the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) Mosque is a grave provocation and a matter of deep concern and anguish for millions of Muslims worldwide,” the Foreign Office said in a statement on Friday.
The coalition said the attack put one transformer out of service but did not affect the power network.
In the statement today, Islamabad called for an immediate and unconditional end of “such reckless actions that also constitute a grave threat to regional peace and security”.
Pakistan also reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with the Saudi Arabia, expressing its full support for the kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
“We stand firmly with Saudi Arabia in its efforts to safeguard the Two Holy Mosques, protect its people and ensure the safety of pilgrims.”
“Pakistan has been and will continue to make all efforts for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region,” the statement added.
Last month, Saudi Arabia said it had intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone south of Makkah before it entered restricted airspace over the city. The coalition described the incident as the second Houthi attempt to target Makkah since 2017.
The coalition said the Madina attack was part of what it described as repeated Houthi attempts to target the Two Holy Mosques and “provoke” Muslims worldwide. It said it would continue taking measures to protect the holy sites and pilgrims.
The coalition also said it had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis toward the southern Saudi city of Khamis Mushait. It gave no immediate details on any damage or casualties.
Local officials said early on Friday that the Houthis had also targeted the headquarters of the Saudi-led coalition forces command in Aden with several ballistic missiles and drones.
