Pakistan to start repatriation of Afghan POR holders from Sept 1

ISLAMABAD, AUG 5: The Interior Ministry has issued a notification to begin the voluntary repatriation of Afghan citizens holding Proof of Registration (POR) cards starting September 1.

The decision follows a high-level meeting convened to address security concerns and increasing pressure on national resources.

Voluntary return to begin immediately
According to the official notification, the Ministry of Interior will begin the voluntary return process immediately, with a full-scale repatriation of remaining POR cardholders launching from next month.

The return plan will follow previous guidelines set by the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan (IFRP). The ministry has also appointed a section officer (security) as the focal person for overseeing the process.

Multilateral coordination for smooth transition
The Foreign Ministry will coordinate efforts with international organizations and the Afghan interim government to ensure a smooth repatriation of Afghan refugees.

Meanwhile, NADRA has been tasked with deregistering returnees at transit points and border terminals, while the FIA will facilitate the repatriation at designated border crossing points.

Provincial govt to map and assist POR holders
To streamline operations, provincial governments and relevant agencies have been instructed to conduct a comprehensive mapping of POR holders. They have also been directed to prepare and share a provincial action plan with the Ministry of Interior.

Transit zones will be identified, and necessary arrangements, including transportation and financial assistance, will be made for deported individuals.

Hotline and complaint cell to be set up
As part of its efforts to ensure a fair and transparent process, the ministry will establish a hotline and complaint cell to address any grievances that may arise during the repatriation process.
