ISLAMABAD: AUG 12 (DNA):Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division Aurangzeb Khan Khichi on Tuesday welcomed proposals from Ukraine to enhance bilateral cultural and heritage exchanges, affirming Pakistan’s commitment to promoting people-to-people linkages and showcasing the country’s soft image.
The Minister was speaking during a meeting with Ms. Oksana Patriaeva, First Secretary at the Embassy of Ukraine, who called on him to discuss initiatives for introducing Ukrainian heritage, literature, and arts in Pakistan.
Ms. Patriaeva proposed establishing a Ukrainian Book Corner at the National Library of Pakistan to familiarize the Pakistani public with Ukrainian literature, culture, and history. “Pakistan is a beautiful country with warm-hearted people. We have always valued the support of the Government of Pakistan, and we want to deepen people-to-people contacts,” she said. She also expressed interest in cultural exchange programs and cooperation in film, exhibitions, and the arts.
Federal Minister welcomed the idea, assuring the Ukrainian envoy of full facilitation. “We appreciate this initiative and will provide a focal person to coordinate the process. Cultural diplomacy is a vital tool for promoting Pakistan’s soft image, and collaborations like these are mutually beneficial,” he said.
The Minister proposed joint exhibitions, cultural shows, and exchange programs to increase awareness about Ukraine in Pakistan, adding that existing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on culture, heritage, and literature could be expanded. He also invited Ukraine to establish a pavilion at Lok Virsa’s annual Lok Mela, offering an opportunity to showcase Ukrainian cuisine, crafts, and performances.
Ms. Patriaeva welcomed the invitation and said Ukraine was ready to bring its artists and films to Pakistan. She also shared plans to visit historical heritage sites such as Mohenjo-daro and Harappa.
The Minister noted that the government had set up a special committee for film revival, and all relevant institutions would be available to support Ukrainian cultural presentations. He further offered the use of galleries in Karachi and Lahore for exhibitions.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to accelerate cultural cooperation and explore new avenues for heritage-based engagement, underscoring the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening Pakistan–Ukraine relations.
