Pakistan wants end to Israeli atrocities in Gaza

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said Israel must halt all military operations in Gaza and the West Bank. A permanent ceasefire must be established without delay

Centreline Report

NEW YORK: Pakistan has called upon the United Nations Security Council to take urgent and decisive action to halt the ongoing Israeli atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank, emphasizing the need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire to prevent further humanitarian catastrophe in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Speaking during the UN Security Council’s briefing on the Middle East, including the Question of Palestine, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, delivered a strongly worded statement condemning the escalating violence and devastation caused by Israeli military operations. He stressed that the indiscriminate use of force against Palestinian civilians, including women and children, constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, human rights, and the UN Charter.

Ambassador Ahmad demanded that Israel immediately halt all military actions in both Gaza and the occupied West Bank, where entire communities have been displaced and vital infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and refugee shelters, has been destroyed. He reiterated Pakistan’s long-standing support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate struggle for self-determination.

The Pakistani envoy urged the Security Council to act in accordance with its mandate to maintain international peace and security by taking concrete steps to stop the bloodshed and to hold Israel accountable for its actions. He also stressed the importance of lifting the blockade imposed on Gaza, which has severely restricted the flow of humanitarian assistance and medical supplies to the besieged population.

Ambassador Ahmad emphasized that humanitarian aid must be allowed to enter Gaza without obstruction. He called for the UN and international humanitarian organizations to be granted full, safe, and unimpeded access to all affected areas in order to provide critical relief and medical assistance to the victims of the conflict.

He concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian question, based on the relevant UN resolutions, international law, and the establishment of a viable, independent, and contiguous Palestinian state with pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Pakistan’s appeal echoes the growing international outcry over the deepening crisis in Gaza, as calls for a permanent ceasefire and accountability continue to mount within the United Nations and beyond.
