RAMALLAH, OCT 28 (DNA): The Palestinian Government expresses its deep appreciation for the unwavering support and solidarity of the nations and peoples of friendly European countries toward the Palestinian people on all levels — humanitarian, political, and financial.
In this context, and in response to the Israeli allegations aired by Channel 14 and attributed to the so-called “Palestinian Media Watch”, which falsely claim that the European Union funds the salaries of Palestinian prisoners through the institutions of the State of Palestine, the Palestinian Government affirms that European financial assistance to Palestine is governed by longstanding, jointly agreed administrative and financial procedures and mechanisms that fully adhere to the principles of transparency, integrity, and good governance.
Accordingly, EU direct budget support to the Palestinian Government is provided exclusively through the PEGASE mechanism, which targets only the health and education sectors.
The Government further clarifies that the social assistance system, enacted by a new law in February 2025, is fully subject to financial and administrative oversight by Palestinian state institutions and international partners, including the European Union. Assistance under this system is directed solely to poor and vulnerable families based on clear and transparent eligibility criteria, entirely free of political considerations. All Palestinian families benefiting from this system receive modest stipends, below the national poverty line, and strictly on social and humanitarian grounds.
The Palestinian Government calls on media outlets not to be misled by Israeli disinformation and propaganda campaigns, and to verify facts through official Palestinian and European sources while upholding accuracy and professionalism when addressing sensitive financial matters.
