PCB 'submits' preliminary squad for T20I World Cup 2026 to ICC

LAHORE, JAN 3: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has submitted its preliminary squad for the ICC T20 World Cup to the international cricket council. The initial 15-player squad includes reserve players as well. PCB can make changes without ICC approval until January 31.

After this date, any changes to the squad will require permission from the ICC Technical Committee. The PCB intends to announce the final squad after the upcoming series against Sri Lanka and the series versus Australia. Performances in the Sri Lanka tour may influence final selections.

The preliminary squad features key players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf. These names are part of the touring team for Sri Lanka, ensuring continuity and assessment before the World Cup.

The ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled from February 7 and will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan will play all its matches in Sri Lanka during the tournament.

Cricket analysts say early submission of the squad allows the team management to plan strategies, assess player readiness, and manage contingencies for injuries or form-related changes. Fans are eagerly waiting to see the final squad announcement.
