ISLAMABAD, Aug 14 (DNA): The Ambassador of the Philippines to Pakistan, Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez, has extended warm felicitations to the government and people of Pakistan on the historic occasion of the country’s 80th Independence Day.
In a message issued here, Ambassador Fernandez hailed Pakistan’s committed and continuous efforts toward achieving national economic prosperity.
In respect of the national holiday, known locally as Yaum-e-Azadi, the Philippine Embassy in Islamabad officially closed its offices for the day to join the host nation in its celebrations.
Ambassador Fernandez highlighted the enduring relationship between the two nations, which spans more than seven decades and encompasses a wide range of cooperation in trade and community linkages.
Pakistan is currently home to a vibrant community of over 3,500 Filipino residents and workers. This dynamic diplomatic exchange was recently mirrored in June 2026, when Pakistani leadership extended similar warm greetings to the Philippines on its 128th Independence Day anniversary, he said.
“Our two countries share a deep appreciation for national identity, cultural heritage, and the aspirations of ordinary citizens for peace, dignity, and opportunity,” Ambassador Fernandez noted. “These common experiences have helped foster the goodwill and mutual respect that have characterized Philippines-Pakistan relations for more than seven decades.”
Reflecting on the deeper meaning of sovereignty, the Ambassador emphasized that true independence requires a continuous dedication to societal values.
“As we reflect on our history, we are reminded that freedom is sustained not only through the defense of sovereignty, but also through our commitment to the values that give meaning to independence,” he shared. “History teaches us that societies flourish when they respect the dignity of every person, uphold justice and equality before the law, and cultivate compassion, empathy, and concern for the welfare of others.”
