Anjum Nisar, Faheem Saigol ask govt to seek traders counsel before making plans

LAHORE (DNA) – In a press conference held at the PIAF office on Wednesday, Mian Anjum Nisar, the Patron-in-Chief of the Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF), urged the government to engage with the trading community before implementing significant plans that could affect their livelihoods. He was joined by Chairman Faheemur Rehman Saigol and other Executive Committee members, highlighting the pressing concerns facing traders in Lahore.

Central to their discussion was the government’s proposed restoration plan for the inner city of Lahore, which poses a threat to the businesses of approximately 7,000 traders operating along Circular Road and the Shah Alam Market. Mian Anjum Nisar expressed his concerns, stating, “Before moving forward with any plans, it is essential that the government consults with the traders. We need to work together to find solutions rather than impose changes that could harm our livelihoods.”

The turnout included a significant number of traders from the United Action Committee, who gathered to voice their apprehensions about the looming changes. PIAF’s Executive Committee members, such as Rana Nisar, Malik Khalid Gujjar, and Malik Shahid Aslam, also participated in the discussions, emphasizing the need for unity and collaboration among traders.

Mian Anjum Nisar reinforced PIAF’s long-standing commitment to advocate for the trading community, noting that the organization has represented their interests for over thirty years. “We stand with the traders, and we will not allow their rights to be overlooked,” he affirmed.

Chairman Faheemur Rehman Saigol provided further insights, reminding attendees of the historical ties between the traders and the government. He stated, “Many years ago, the government established these markets and provided a foundation for the traders. Now, there are plans that may dismantle what they have built. It is crucial that any restoration efforts do not come at the expense of their businesses.”

Both leaders acknowledged the current challenges that traders face, which have intensified in recent years. They underscored the vital role that traders play in the national economy, emphasizing their resilience and dedication despite adversities. Saigol likened their struggle to a noble fight for justice and fair treatment.

In closing, Mian Anjum Nisar conveyed a clear message to the government: any planning processes that do not involve meaningful consultation with traders are bound to fail. He called for an open dialogue to ensure that the needs and concerns of the trading community are appropriately addressed before any decisions are made.

The conference concluded on a note of solidarity, as traders from Circular Road, the Super Shah Alam Market, and neighboring areas united in their call for respect and consideration in the face of potential upheaval. Together, they reaffirmed their commitment to preserving their livelihoods and working towards a collaborative future.
