ISLAMABAD: In a significant development for Pakistan’s hockey administration, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the resignation of Tariq Hussain Bugti as President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), triggering a major restructuring within the federation.
According to official sources, the Prime Minister has appointed Mohiyuddin Ahmed Wani, Secretary of the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ministry, as the ad-hoc President of the PHF. The move is aimed at ensuring a smooth transition in leadership and restoring stability within the national hockey governing body.
The Prime Minister has directed the relevant authorities to oversee an orderly transition process and to conduct transparent and fair elections in accordance with the PHF constitution. The decision comes at a time when Pakistan hockey has been facing administrative and performance-related challenges, prompting calls for structural reforms.
In a related development, the competent authority has also accepted the resignations of PHF General Secretary Rana Mujahid and Treasurer Shahid Pervaiz Bhandara. Their departures mark a comprehensive change in the top leadership of the federation.
Officials indicate that the interim setup under Mohiyuddin Ahmed Wani will focus on administrative reforms, financial transparency, and preparations for upcoming national and international commitments. Stakeholders within the hockey community have expressed hope that the new arrangement will help revive the sport’s past glory and strengthen institutional governance.
The latest changes signal the government’s intent to reset the administrative framework of Pakistan hockey and pave the way for credible elections and long-term reforms within the PHF.
