Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call this evening from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, amid heightened tensions in South Asia following recent Indian military actions.

During the call, the Prime Minister strongly condemned the missile and drone strikes carried out by India, which resulted in the deaths of 31 civilians, injuries to 57 others, and extensive damage to civilian infrastructure. He emphasized that the attacks constituted a blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and posed a serious threat to regional peace and stability.

Prime Minister Sharif underscored Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating that the nation reserved the right to act in self-defense in line with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. He also conveyed the deep anger and concern among the Pakistani public over what he described as India’s unprovoked acts of war.

The Prime Minister acknowledged and appreciated U.S. President Donald Trump’s concern regarding the unfolding security situation.

He emphasized that Washington remains committed to peace in the region and urged both Pakistan and India to take steps to de-escalate the crisis.

Both leaders agreed to maintain close contact in the coming days.
