ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has announced a special “Roshan Maeeshat” (Bright Economy) Power Package aimed at accelerating the growth of Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural sectors. The announcement came during his meeting with experts and representatives from both sectors.

Under the new package, industries and farmers will receive additional electricity at discounted rates over the next three years—from November 2025 to October 2028. The Prime Minister said the power tariff for industrial units, currently at Rs 34 per unit, and for agriculture, at Rs 38 per unit, will be significantly reduced. The sectors will now get additional electricity at Rs 22.98 per unit throughout the year.

PM Shehbaz emphasized that the cost of this relief will not burden domestic consumers or other sectors, ensuring that the subsidy directly benefits producers. He lauded Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari and his team for their dedicated efforts in preparing the package.

“The development of industry and agriculture is crucial for economic growth and job creation,” the Prime Minister said, adding that his government is taking every possible measure to enhance competitiveness and ease of doing business in these sectors.

Highlighting the success of the previous year’s winter energy package, PM Shehbaz noted that industries and the agricultural sector had used 410 gigawatt hours of additional electricity, which boosted production, exports, and employment.

“The journey from economic crisis to stability was challenging,” he said, “but through the hard work of our economic team and your cooperation, we have achieved progress.”

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that with continued effort and collaboration, Pakistan will soon achieve economic self-sufficiency.
