ISLAMABAD, NOV 29 (DNA) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan People’s Party on Friday submitted their reply of the questionnaire of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in Party Funding.
The scrutiny committee of the ECP chaired by the Director General Law met today for an inquiry into the party funding of PML-N and the PPP.
PML-N leader Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha and counsel Jahangir Jadoon appeared before the ECP and took the stance that no company is registered in name of PML-N in America, however, did not respond to the question regarding ownership of a company in England.
Jahangir Jadoon also submitted the reply of the questionnaire issued to the party by the election commission.
PML-N said it has already provided all details of party accounts in Pakistan to the ECP, and sought time to submit Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) details of benefactors who give fund to the party.
The next session of ECP scrutiny committee regarding the PML-N party funding case will be held on December 3. Parliamentary Secretary for Railways Farrukh Habib – the petitioner – talked to media after the hearing and said PML-N is trying to escape after submitting reply on a single piece of paper.
People’s Party’s Shehbaz Khosa advocate also appeared in a session of the ECP’s scrutiny committee and submitted the party’s reply over the queries of the election commission. “We don’t have any company in the United States,” the PPP representative informed the committee on a question.
The ECP body will review the answers and details submitted by the two opposition parties. The scrutiny committee has summoned again the counsels of the PML-N and the PPP on December 03 for a hearing.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Farrukh Habib MNA, who also appeared in the scrutiny committee said the PML-N has submitted reply of the ECP questionnaire on one page, “this brief reply of the billions of rupees transactions is not understandable,” he opined.
“They have also to answer about the electoral expenditures”, Habib said.
Earlier on November 21, the ECP had accepted opposition’s application to conduct the proceedings in the foreign funding case against PTI on a daily basis from November 26.
The ECP had also directed the scrutiny committee to gear-up its work in this regard. = DNA
