Police takes stringent actions against underage drivers

ISLAMABAD, NOV 19 (DNA) — Islamabad Capital Police has intensified action against underage drivers and smoke-emitting vehicles for the purpose of road safety and environmental protection, a police public relations officer said.

He said that, following the special directions of Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, the Islamabad Capital Police ensured the smooth flow of traffic on capital roads and intensified the crackdown against vehicles causing environmental pollution.

During the ongoing month, legal action was taken against 871 underage drivers and registered 270 cases against them, while 551 motorcycles and 134 vehicles were also impounded at various police stations. Islamabad Capital Police also handed over 300 underage drivers to their parents on affidavits and organized special awareness classes on traffic rules for them.

Islamabad Capital Police has launched a special drive to reduce environmental pollution in the federal capital. In this regard, 758 challans worth more than 01 million rupees were issued to smoke-emitting vehicles in a month.

The ICCPO Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan has directed the Chief Traffic Officer Islamabad to ensure continuous and strict enforcement of traffic laws, ensuring zero tolerance towards those who jeopardize their safety and that of others.

Islamabad Capital Police aired a special awareness campaign about the repercussions of traffic violations through special broadcasts on FM Radio 92.4 for citizens. — DNA
