ISLAMABAD, 11 MAR (DNA) — President Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated Nepal’s Rastriya Swatantra Party and its leader Balendra Shah on their historic electoral victory. President Zardari said the active role of young people in the electoral process was very encouraging and reflected a wider regional aspiration for accountable governance and reform.
He noted that the emergence of youth-driven leadership sent a positive signal across South Asia and the world at large. The President also recalled that Pakistan takes pride in the legacy of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who became the youngest Prime Minister of Pakistan, and said that the emergence of a young Prime Minister in Nepal was a welcome development for the region.
Recalling the warm and longstanding ties between Pakistan and Nepal since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1960, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to further deepen bilateral cooperation on the basis of mutual respect, goodwill and shared interests.
President Zardari conveyed his best wishes for the success of the new leadership in fulfilling its reform agenda by advancing Nepal’s progress and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its longstanding friendship with Nepal. — DNA
