Islamabad: On behalf of the Government and the people of Pakistan, President Asif Ali Zardari has conveyed heartfelt congratulations to the Government and the people of the Republic of the Philippines on the occasion of their National Independence Day. The message was read out by Presidential Spokesperson Murtaza Solangi at a special gathering.
President Zardari stated:
“This day commemorates the historic declaration of Independence of the Philippines in 1898, a defining moment that gave birth to a proud and sovereign nation, and announced to the world the indomitable spirit of the Filipino people. Pakistan admires the resilience and courage that have come to define the people of the Philippines over the course of its remarkable journey.”
Highlighting the longstanding ties between the two nations, the President noted that Pakistan and the Philippines share a bond of friendship spanning more than seven decades. As both countries prepare to mark 77 years of diplomatic relations later this year, he emphasized that the relationship is rooted in mutual respect, goodwill, and a shared commitment to multilateral cooperation in forums such as the United Nations and ASEAN.
President Zardari underscored the promise of economic partnership, pointing to growing bilateral trade and untapped potential in agriculture, food security, healthcare, defence cooperation, education, information technology, and renewable energy. He expressed Pakistan’s eagerness to harness this potential through greater business-to-business engagement and joint ventures.
The President also extended appreciation for the hospitality shown by the Philippines to the Pakistani community residing there, acknowledging their role as a bridge of friendship between the two nations.
Concluding his message, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to addressing global challenges such as climate change and sustainable development, and wished the people of the Philippines continued peace, progress, and prosperity.
“May the friendship between Pakistan and the Philippines flourish and grow stronger with each passing year.”
