ISLAMABAD, JUN 29: A proposal to extend the stay of Afghan refugees holding proof of residence (PoR) cards in Pakistan by six months has been sent to the federal cabinet for approval.

According to official sources, a high-level meeting took place to discuss the return of Afghan refugees holding POR cards. Officials from the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (Safron), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the Ministry of Interior and security agencies attended the meeting.

The participants considered a three- to six-month extension in the legal stay of PoR card holders.

Sources confirmed that a recommendation for a six-month extension would be placed before the cabinet.

The meeting was briefed that a significant number of Afghan nationals were born in Pakistan and currently possess businesses and property within the country.
