Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz announces free plots for homeless families

LAHORE, JAN 13: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday unveiled a landmark initiative to provide free plots to homeless and deserving families across the province.

The announcement was made during the inauguration ceremony of the Maskan Ravi Housing Scheme in Kala Shah Kaku. The chief minister highlighted the scheme’s aim to uplift low-income families by granting them a chance to own land and build their homes.

Speaking at the event, Maryam Nawaz said, “Nawaz Sharif’s politics has always been about serving the people. Every developmental project in this country bears his seal of commitment.”

She further added that under this initiative, 3-marla plots will be allocated free of cost to eligible individuals in areas close to urban centers.

The chief minister noted that housing remains a critical challenge, with many families lacking a permanent roof over their heads. “There are countless people in Punjab who neither own a house nor have the means to acquire one. This scheme is designed for such deserving individuals,” she said.

Ambitious targets for housing development

Maryam Nawaz outlined ambitious plans for housing in the province. She revealed that 100 houses have already been constructed within a short span of two and a half months under the Maskan Ravi Housing Scheme.

Additionally, thousands more houses are currently under construction across Punjab, with plans to build one lakh houses in a year and provide homes to five lakh families within five years.

The chief minister expressed confidence in the public’s faith in her government’s initiatives, stating, “The people of Punjab trust Nawaz Sharif’s vision. They actively participate in every scheme, knowing that it will be completed with integrity and efficiency.”

Infrastructure, transportation improvements

Maryam Nawaz also announced several other projects aimed at improving the province’s infrastructure and public services. She revealed that 400 roads are under construction across Punjab. In addition, 25 electric buses have already reached Karachi for public transport, with 500 more on order.

She added that the government’s efforts have brought down inflation, citing a reduction in the price of bread from Rs 25 to Rs 13.

The chief minister concluded by reaffirming her commitment to fulfilling Nawaz Sharif’s vision for the province. “We are identifying locations in densely populated areas near urban centers to allocate land for housing. Every deserving family will have a place to call home,” she said.
