LAHORE, AUG 25: The Punjab government has decided to expand the mandate of the Counter Crime Department (CCD), giving it broader powers to tackle cybercrime, harassment of women, narcotics, and organized land grabbing groups.
Under the new decision, CCD will not only take action against harassment cases online but also investigate major cybercrimes across Punjab.
The department will now have the legal authority to register cases, conduct arrests, and initiate operations against drug traffickers and squatting mafias.
Tackling organised crime
Officials confirmed that CCD will compile records of organized squatting groups while also revisiting pending and cold cases. To strengthen its operations, the force will be equipped with modern gadgets and advanced data access for digital tracking and monitoring of criminal activity.
Digitization and future expansion
As part of the reforms, all CCD systems will be digitized to ensure faster and more transparent investigations.
The provincial government has also begun work on assigning additional targets to CCD, with a focus on improving coordination against online harassment, drug cartels, and land mafias.
