Punjab govt fails to provide relief at Sasta Sahulat Bazaars

ISLAMABAD, AUG 10: Punjab government’s “Sasta Sahulat Bazaars” have failed to provide relief to the public, with fruits and vegetables being sold at inflated prices and poor quality.

The citizens complain that under the name of low-cost markets, they are being overcharged, while there is no effective system of monitoring or quality control.

At the Sabzazar Sasta Sahulat Bazaar, cauliflower is selling for Rs 200 per kg against the official rate of Rs 150. Capsicum is priced at Rs 270 instead of Rs 200, bitter gourd at Rs 220 instead of Rs 160, peas at Rs 280 instead of Rs 240, and ginger at Rs 520 instead of the official Rs 490. Garlic, lemons, tomatoes, and ridge gourd are also being sold above government rates.

Among fruits, bananas are being sold for up to Rs 270 per dozen against the official Rs 215. Citizens said profiteers are active while the administration is taking no action.

They urged the government to ensure a reduction in fruit and vegetable prices and improvement in quality.
