Punjab on high alert amid terror threats

LAHORE, MAY 13: Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has raised the security alert level throughout the province, warning that a defeated enemy may attempt to undermine national integrity through acts of terrorism.

Speaking at an awards ceremony in the Central Police Office, Dr. Anwar said that, in the context of heightened Pakistan–India tensions, the challenges and risks for the police have significantly increased. He cautioned that hostile elements could target sensitive installations, Chinese residential compounds, and development projects to sow instability.

“As long as this regional tension persists, the threat of terrorism remains very real,” he told officers, announcing that all police units from Lahore to the farthest districts are now on high alert. An immediate review of security protocols and deployment plans has been ordered to ensure readiness against any attempted attacks.

Investigations and enhanced patrolling have already begun, with Punjab Police working in coordination with federal security agencies to safeguard critical sites and reassure the public.
