ATTOCK, JAN 3 /DNA/ – Punjab Police claimed a significant decline has been recorded in registered crime in Punjab compared to the previous year due to effective strategies, improved investigation, and the tireless efforts of field formations, a substantial decrease has been witnessed in the rate of heinous and property crimes. In the year 2025, cases of gang rape recorded a 79 percent decrease compared to the year 2024. Similarly, cases of murder during dacoity and robbery showed a 73 percent decrease, while the overall cases of dacoity and robbery declined by 71 percent. Cases of vehicle snatching decreased by 69 percent, and registered cases of vehicle theft showed a 41 percent reduction. Likewise, cases of blind murder recorded a 32 percent decrease. The spokesman of Punjab Police Syed Mubasher Hussain , Director Public Relations says on Saturday.
Punjab Police spokesperson further said that cases of kidnapping for ransom decreased by 29 percent, while murder cases showed a reduction of 23 percent. During the year 2025, cases of crime against property recorded an overall decrease of 27 percent, which is a remarkable achievement. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, expressed satisfaction over the clear reduction in the rate of heinous crimes and appreciated the force. IG Punjab said that through effective and quality investigation, cases are being completed in a timely manner and criminals are being awarded punishments as per law. IG Punjab further said that the decline in registered crime despite the Free Registration of FIR Policy is clear evidence of the excellent professional performance and public-friendly initiatives of Punjab Police.
The spokesman added that Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, on the occasion of the New Year, has announced major welfare measures for the special children of police employees and the families of police martyrs, including a doubling of monthly stipends. DIG Welfare Zeeshan Asghar, while sharing the details, said that the monthly stipend for 165 children of police employees suffering from thalassemia has been increased from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 30,000, while the monthly stipend for 677 children suffering from cerebral palsy has been increased from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000. In addition, approval has also been granted to provide a monthly stipend of Rs. 10,000 to children of police employees affected by autism.
DIG Welfare further said that an additional Rs. 500 million has been added to the Endowment Fund established for the construction of houses for the families of police martyrs prior to 2017, in order to further accelerate the mission of providing shelter to the families of martyrs. He added that during the year 2025, a total of nearly Rs. 8 billion was spent by the Central Police Office and districts on police welfare, while Rs. 27 million is being spent daily on the welfare of the force and their families.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that the police force is like a family, and the care of employees, their children, and families is the top priority of the police. He said that all possible measures are being taken through welfare resources for the health and well-being of police employees’ children, and the mission of providing shelter to the families of police martyrs prior to 2017 will continue without interruption. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, more than Rs. 1.8 million is being spent on cochlear implant surgery for each hearing-impaired child of police employees, while substantial amounts are also being provided from welfare funds for the treatment of children suffering from various diseases.
Earlier, IG Punjab Police further said that Special Initiative Police Stations (SIPS) project across the province has successfully completed its two years. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, said that in December 2023, 737 police stations across the province, including Lahore, were upgraded under the Special Initiative Police Stations protocol. IG Punjab said that with the provision of funds by the Government of Punjab for the upgradation of all police stations across the province, police stations have been equipped with a modern, aesthetically pleasing and public-friendly environment. In the Special Initiative Police Stations, regional uniqueness, local culture and traditions have been highlighted, which is proving to be a pleasant experience for citizens.
Dr. Usman Anwar said that for the past two years, Punjab Police has been utilizing its resources to maintain the beauty and facilities of the Special Initiative Police Stations. He appreciated the efforts of the entire force, from the constabulary to Regional Police Officers (RPOs), and expressed his gratitude for their contributions in this process. IG Punjab said that despite the passage of two years, the Special Initiative Police Stations still reflect a beautiful, attractive and pleasant environment, while further improvements have also been made to their facilities and infrastructure. He further said that the construction of multi-purpose, facility-based smart police stations in densely populated cities of the province has also been undertaken, out of which 62 smart police stations have been successfully completed. Dr. Usman Anwar said that in the new year, police force reaffirm its resolve to provide citizens with more improved, effective and prompt police services with the help of modern technology and artificial intelligence, Director PR added.
