Punjab sets ambitious targets for transformative progress

LAHORE, JAN 12: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, in a landmark decision, directed the provision of 10,000 tractors at subsidised rates to farmers by 28 February, with an additional 2,000 super seeders to be distributed by March.

A high-level performance review meeting, chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, was held to evaluate the progress of ministries and departments concerning agriculture, energy, and industry over the past six months.

Officials briefed on the advancements made in projects initiated by the chief minister.

The government resolved to expedite and expand the scheme for providing free solar energy to Punjab’s residents.

It was further decided to complete the transition of government buildings to solar energy and conclude the renewable energy project by June.

Additionally, a comprehensive programme aimed at the revival and enhancement of citrus fruits, such as oranges and kinnows, was announced. Plans to establish exemplary agricultural markets in Punjab were also finalised.

Farmers were to receive support to boost production and increase exports, while an additional Rs6billion was allocated to promote solar energy initiatives.

The meeting mandated the establishment of a waste-to-energy fund by March and reviewed the transition of Punjab Assembly, Institute of Cardiology, and other departments to solar energy.

CM Maryam had set a deadline of March for the completion of the “Garments Cities” project in Punjab.

Speaking about her vision, CM Maryam stated, “Modern technology-led development in agriculture, energy, and industry is my agenda. The dream of an agricultural and industrial revolution in Punjab is rapidly becoming a reality.”

Aurangzeb noted that CM Maryam’s initiatives were bringing prosperity to Punjab and Pakistan, emphasising, “The well-being of farmers is the foundation of progress for both Punjab and the nation.”
