ISLAMABAD: Recent rule changes in hockey include modifications to the overhead rule, face masks for penalty corners, and adjustments to how coaches can challenge penalties in the NHL.
Overhead Rule: Players must not approach within 5 meters of an opponent receiving a falling, raised ball until it’s touched, allowing for potential interceptions outside playing distance.
Penalty Corners: FIH events now mandate face masks for all players defending penalty corners, with some flexibility in the 40-second delay.

NHL Coaching Challenges: A coach’s challenge can now be used to overturn a penalty for puck out of play, particularly for delay of game penalties when the puck deflects off a player, stick, glass, or boards, according to the NHL. In ice hockey, a puck is the small, flat, round object that players hit to score goals — essentially, it’s the hockey equivalent of a ball in other sports.
New rules are being applied in the ongoing FIH Pro League being played in the Netherlands and Spain.
