DUABI, OCT 29: Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has achieved a major milestone in his illustrious career by becoming the No.1 ranked batter in ICC Men’s ODI Rankings for the first time.
The latest update also brings movement for Pakistan’s Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan in Tests, with Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan retaining his top bowling position.
Rohit Sharma climbed two places to claim the top spot on the ICC ODI Batter Rankings, following his unbeaten century against Australia in Sydney that sealed a nine-wicket victory for India.
The 38-year-old struck 13 fours and three sixes during his 33rd ODI century, guiding India to a commanding win alongside Virat Kohli (74*). His consistent form over the years has now earned him the No.1 ranking — a first in his two-decade international career.
Rohit overtook Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran and teammate Shubman Gill, who now sit second and third respectively, while Pakistan’s Babar Azam slipped to fourth position.
Rashid Khan retains top bowling spot
Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan continues to lead the ICC ODI Bowling Rankings. India’s Axar Patel climbed six spots to 31st following a strong showing in Sydney, and also improved to eighth among ODI all-rounders — one place behind Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai.
Among other movers, New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner rose three spots to fourth, and Australia’s Josh Hazlewood advanced to eighth on the ODI bowling list. England’s Harry Brook made notable progress as well, jumping 23 positions to reach 25th among ODI batters.
Pakistan players see mixed results in Test rankings
In the latest ICC Test Rankings, Pakistan captain Shan Masood climbed five places to 42nd after scoring consistently against South Africa in Rawalpindi. However, wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan dropped five spots to 21st.
Among Test bowlers, Pakistan’s Noman Ali slipped from second to third, as India’s Jasprit Bumrah claimed the No.1 spot followed by New Zealand’s Matt Henry.
South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj emerged as the biggest gainer, climbing nine places to 13th after his nine-wicket match-winning haul against Pakistan. Simon Harmer also jumped 26 places to 45th, while batters Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi rose to 15th and joint 47th respectively.
Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada moved up eight rungs to 11th among Test all-rounders after contributing with both bat and ball.
In the shortest format, South Africa’s Corbin Bosch surged 40 spots to 53rd among bowlers, while Pakistan’s Mohammad Nawaz climbed eight positions to sixth among T20I all-rounders. Young opener Saim Ayub also made progress, moving up five places to 49th among T20I batters.
