ISLAMABAD, NOV 20 /DNA/: Russia has offered mediation between Pakistan, India and Afghanistan for peace in the region.
Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev, while addressing a session of the Islamabad Institute of Strategic Studies, has offered to play a mediating role for lasting peace in the region.
Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev said that there is great concern about the security of the region, especially the situation in Afghanistan, which is a very sensitive issue for Russia. He added that Russia is ready to play its role in reducing the ongoing tensions with Pakistan’s two neighboring countries, Afghanistan and India.
Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev, hinting at the involvement of external powers in the escalation of tensions in South Asia, said that Russia always supports regional peace, stability and efforts against terrorism.
He also emphasised that disputes between neighboring countries can best be resolved by regional parties. Describing Pakistan as an important partner, the Russian ambassador said that Pakistan’s geographical and diplomatic position in the region is prominent and very important.
The Russian ambassador also expressed his commitment to continue cooperation with Pakistan for economic and social development.
It should be noted that this statement came at a time when Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, after which further warming of relations between Pakistan and Russia is expected.
