MOSCOW/ISLAMABAD, JUN 7 /DNA/ – Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, addressed the members of the Russian Federation Council during the Plenary Session on 7th June 2023. His speech emphasized the historical ties and the prospects of enhancing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Russia.

Expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to the Pakistani delegation, Chairman Senate acknowledged the pride and honor he felt to be present in the culturally diverse nation of Russia. He commended the symbolism of the Russian flag’s colors and the inspiring national anthem, which reflect freedom, justice, valour, patriotism, power, and national integration.

Highlighting the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Russia, Chairman Senate recognized the strong bond shared by the peoples of both nations over an extended period. He expressed confidence that the evolving global landscape would further strengthen bilateral ties and open new avenues of cooperation. The Pakistani business community has shown significant interest in expanding trade relations with Russia.

Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani paid tribute to the heroic struggle of the Soviet Union during World War II and the role played by the people of the Indus Valley, now Pakistan, in the defeat of Nazism. He regarded Leningrad as a symbol of patriotism and courage and paid special homage to the Red Army and the Russian people. The chairman also mentioned the prestigious Lenin Peace Prize awarded to Faiz Ahmed Faiz, a renowned Pakistani poet, dedicating his work to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the historic Battle of Leningrad.

Acknowledging the significance of parliamentary friendship groups in both Pakistan and Russia, Chairman Senate appreciated the personal role of Madam Valentina Matviyenko, the Speaker of the Council of the Russian Federation, in revitalizing Pakistan-Russia relations. He emphasized the vital role of parliamentary cooperation and effective diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations and resolving regional and international issues.

Chairman Senate emphasized the proactive role of the Pakistani parliament in finding innovative solutions to global challenges such as economic recession, pandemics, climate change, Islamophobia, extremism, and transnational terrorism. He called for regular, open, and constructive dialogue between parliaments worldwide to foster a deeper understanding among nations.

Stressing the importance of Pakistan-Russia relations, Chairman Senate highlighted the infinite opportunities that lie ahead. He expressed Pakistan’s commitment to resolving disputes diplomatically and urged the global community to work together for lasting peace and stability. The chairman underscored the positive momentum in Pakistan-Russia relations and the mutual desire to expand cooperation in various fields, including trade, economy, security, defense, culture, education, and people-to-people contacts.

Chairman Senate expressed gratitude for President Putin’s support in developing Pakistan-Russia relations and acknowledged his mention of Pakistan in the context of trade connectivity. He highlighted the recent inauguration of a commercial shipping service between Pakistan and Russia, which signifies the potential for bilateral investment, economic growth, job creation, and technological advancement. The chairman regarded Russia’s focus on Asia as an opportunity for further bilateral economic cooperation.

As staunch believers in multilateralism, Chairman Senate emphasized the shared world view between Pakistan and Russia, emphasizing the UN Charter and adherence to international law as the basis for contemporary international relations. He appreciated President Putin’s stance against the desecration of holy personalities and burning of holy books, applauding Russia’s commitment to an inclusive society that respects diversity and embraces its cultural and historical heritage, including its significant Muslim community.

In conclusion, Chairman Saenate called for a new era of collaboration, understanding, and shared prosperity between Pakistan and Russia. He

expressed confidence that by working together, the two countries can contribute to regional peace and stability, foster economic growth, and enhance the well-being of their people.

He expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and valuable discussions during his visit. He extended a special invitation to Madam Valentina Matviyenko, the Speaker of the Council of the Russian Federation, to visit Pakistan. He concluded by reaffirming the commitment to further augment, consolidate, deepen, and broaden the friendship between Pakistan and Russia, paving the way for a more peaceful, prosperous, and interconnected world.

Earlier Chairman Senate, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani held delegation level talks with Chairman of the Russian Duma (lower house) Mr. Volodin. Chairman Senate emphasized parliamentary exchanges as an important component of effective diplomacy. Both sides agreed to further enhance parliamentary interaction between the two countries. Chairman Senate reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen bilateral relations with Russia in all areas of mutually beneficial cooperation especially trade, investment, energy.

Both sides agreed to continue cooperation in international forums including UN and SCO. Chairman Senate conveyed an invitation to Chairman Volodin from the Speaker of National Assembly of Pakistan to visit Pakistan which was happily accepted.

Chairman Senate visited the Moscow Cathedral Mosque. He was welcomed by Grand Mufti of Russia Mr. Gaynutdin who briefed the senate delegation regarding the history and activities of the Mosque as well as the role of the Islam in Russia and Russia’s close relations with the Islamic world. Chairman Senate appreciated Russia’s stance on respect for all religions and interfaith harmony.

Chairman of the Senate, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, also laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin Wall, paying tribute to those who fell during the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany from 1941 to 1945.
