RIYADH, SEP 22: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed developments in the region and the negative repercussions of the ongoing escalation on maritime security during a phone call on Tuesday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The two leaders reviewed the latest regional developments and their impact on the security of international shipping routes, according to SPA.
The Kremlin said Putin and the Crown Prince held a detailed exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East and stressed the importance of ensuring the safe and unimpeded passage of vessels through international waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandeb.
They also emphasized the need for a political and diplomatic resolution to the regional crisis and called for a swift cessation of hostilities in Yemen and conditions for constructive intra-Yemeni dialogue under UN auspices, according to the Kremlin.
The talks come amid heightened tensions around both waterways, which are critical routes for global energy supplies and trade.
