SC announces summer vacation schedule to enhance judicial efficiency

ISLAMABAD, Jun 2: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday announced its Summer Vacation Schedule for 2026, saying the arrangement has been designed to enhance judicial performance, improve institutional efficiency and ensure the expeditious disposal of pending cases.

According to a press release issued by the Supreme Court, the initiative reflects the court’s commitment to providing timely and effective justice while maximizing its institutional capacity during the summer recess.

The court said that, at the request of the Chief Justice of Pakistan and following mutual consultations, the judges of the Supreme Court had voluntarily agreed to maximize their sitting period at the principal seat in Islamabad during the summer vacations.

In a departure from past practice, the judges have also agreed to reduce, where applicable, the period of sittings at the branch registries. However, the actual vacation period to be availed by the judges will remain unchanged at four weeks, in line with previous years.

The new arrangement is aimed at ensuring greater judicial availability during the summer recess and facilitating the uninterrupted hearing and disposal of cases.

The Supreme Court said the decision demonstrates the collective resolve of the judges to optimize judicial resources, strengthen court performance and improve access to swift justice for litigants across the country.
