ISLAMABAD, Jun 2: The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought a response from the federal government regarding the non-payment of the announced compensation package to the families of the martyrs of the Army Public School (APS) tragedy.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard the case.
During the proceedings, Justice Irfan Saadat remarked that the petition had been filed with a delay of 25 days.
Counsel for the petitioners submitted that the compensation package announced by the government for the families of the APS martyrs had still not been provided.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar observed that if the package had been granted to some individuals, it should be extended to all affected families. He further directed the federal government to clarify the extent to which the judgment of the Peshawar High Court had been implemented.
The court also considered a contempt petition filed by the families of the martyrs concerning the alleged non-implementation of the Peshawar High Court’s decision. The High Court had previously dismissed the contempt application.
After preliminary hearing, the Supreme Court adjourned further proceedings in the case for an indefinite period and sought a response from the federal government.
