JOHANNESBURG, JUN 12 (QNA/APP/DNA):The death toll from floods that swept through South Africa’s Eastern Cape province has risen to 49.
Local authorities reported that the death toll from floods that have swept through the Eastern Cape since the beginning of this week has risen to 49, noting that heavy rains and snowfall, coupled with a severe winter cold snap, have disrupted transportation and electricity networks in the province.
Floods have become more common and severe in South Africa as the effects of climate change are increasingly felt.
A storm that struck South Africa’s east coast in April 2022 killed nearly 400 people and displaced thousands more.
