Telecom subscribers in Pakistan reach 200 million: PTA

ISLAMABAD, DEC 31 – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said on Wednesday that the number of telecom subscribers in Pakistan has reached 200 million.

In its annual report for 2024–25, the PTA report said broadband connections have crossed 150 million, while telecom coverage now stands at more than 92 per cent and broadband penetration has risen above 60 per cent.

The authority said total revenue of the telecom sector has exceeded one trillion rupees, marking a year-on-year increase of 12 per cent. The sector’s contribution to the national exchequer has reached 402 billion rupees, compared with Rs336 billion in 2024.

According to the report, investment has risen by 9 per cent to $838 million. During 2025, total data usage was recorded at 27,727 petabytes. At present, 95 per cent of cellular networks in the country operate on 4G, with 17.21 Tbps of international bandwidth available.

To strengthen regional connectivity, four new high-capacity submarine cables are being added. The report also highlighted rapid growth in domestic manufacturing of mobile devices, with more than 95 per cent of mobile phones now produced locally, including 68 per cent smartphones.

The PTA said Pakistan’s global ranking in cyber security has improved, while consumer protection measures have led to a 13 per cent reduction in complaints.
