ISLAMABAD, May 8: The Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, hosted Turkish scientist Prof Dr Fikrettin Sahin, Head of Genetics and Bioengineering at Yeditepe University, from May 5–8, 2026, under the OIC-COMSTECH Expert Service Programme.
The visit marked a key engagement under the COMSTECH Expert Service Programme, a flagship initiative launched to facilitate technical cooperation and scientific capacity building among OIC member states.
During the visit, Prof Dr Sahin is holding strategic discussions with Director CEMB Prof Dr Moazur Rahman aimed at strengthening long-term international collaboration and exploring avenues for the commercialisation of biotechnological innovations.
The engagement was focused on translating advanced scientific research into practical and impactful solutions through joint research initiatives and knowledge sharing.
As part of the programme, Prof Dr Sahin is conducting technical reviews of CEMB’s specialised facilities, including laboratories dedicated to stem cell research, biopharmaceuticals, virology and genetic diseases.
The interaction is expected to promote the exchange of technical expertise, advanced research practices and emerging trends in molecular biology and genetic engineering.
The initiative was also aimed at strengthening scientific cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye while opening new opportunities for collaborative research and innovation.
The Expert Service Programme enables institutions across OIC member states to benefit from the services of internationally recognised experts for technical consultation, specialised training and research collaboration.
This programme reflects COMSTECH’s broader commitment to enhancing scientific capacity, promoting innovation and supporting high-impact research initiatives across the Muslim world.
