ISLAMABAD, OCT 16 (DNA): During his visit to Pakistan for the Third Trilateral Speakers’ Conference, Turkish parliamentarian Ali Şahin, President of the Türkiye-Pakistan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, held an in-depth discussion with Shabana Ayaz, President of the Pak-Turk Women Forum.
In the meeting, Şahin emphasized Türkiye’s potential to mediate and promote dialogue to address the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He presented five visionary proposals to strengthen Türkiye-Pakistan relations and foster regional peace and stability — later sharing the same proposals on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Key Proposals by Ali Şahin:
1. Establishing an AK Party Office in Islamabad
To promote parliamentary diplomacy, educational exchange, and cultural cooperation within a strategic bloc of over 650 million people across Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh.
2. Joint Drone Base at Gwadar Port
To enhance maritime security in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean, aligned with the objectives of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
3. Collaboration on Gulf and Middle East Security
Through joint training programs and defense technology transfers to build effective counter-terrorism models for the Muslim world.
4. Pakistan as an Engaged Partner in the Organization of Turkic States
Building on 700 years of Turkic influence in the subcontinent and Pakistan’s strong support for Azerbaijan during the Karabakh conflict.
5. Reviving the Ankara Trilateral Summit
Dormant since 2021, the summit could help mediate Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions through phased ceasefires, economic incentives, and structured dialogue for sustainable peace.
These proposals came amid recent border tensions, including a deadly incident in Pakistan’s Orakzai district on October 8, 2025, followed by airstrikes in Afghanistan’s Kabul and Paktika provinces.
Türkiye, with its long-standing history of mediation, its contributions to NATO’s Afghanistan mission, and leadership in the 2011 Istanbul Process, is uniquely positioned to help bridge the divide — promoting peace, cooperation, and prosperity across the region.
