UNFPA Representative meets Health Minister Nadeem Jan

ISLAMABAD, OCT 5 /DNA/ – Dr. Luay Shabaneh UNFPA Representative in Islamabad called on the Caretaker Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan. Issues related to health sector and of mutual interest were discussed in the meeting The Minister informed that Ministry of National Health Services is all set to organize “All Pakistan Women Convention on Family Planning and Population Management” at the Convention Centre Islamabad on 16th October 2023.

The Minister further informed that objective of this Convention is to empower the women and mothers by raising the awareness and knowledge of women, particularly the rural women on population issues and family planning based on the Islamic concept “Tawazun” which calls for balancing between the resources and the population.

The Minister said that the audience at the Convention will include the 500 women of the reproductive health age from the rural and peri-urban areas. Scholars, national and international experts are participating in the convention to highlight the Islamic point of view on Family Planning. Balance between the resources and the is need of the hour, he said. The Minister said that the government is working under an integrated strategy to control the growing population.

The Population Task Force is following a comprehensive strategy to control the population, he said. UNFPA Representative appreciated the measures taken to control population growth and assured full support in this regard from UNFPA.
