WASHINGTON, AUG 17: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has pledged that America will continue efforts to secure a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
Rubio spoke about the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, highlighting a recent meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said that certain issues discussed during that meeting could pave the way for ending the war.
According to Rubio, the United States will persist in its attempts to achieve a peace deal between the two countries.
He emphasised the importance of negotiating security guarantees for Ukraine.
Rubio revealed that on Monday, a meeting would take place involving Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders, during which all relevant matters would be discussed in detail.
However, he cautioned that the US might not be able to present an effective scenario for ending the war.
He added that it was too early to claim that the two sides were close to reaching a peace agreement.
