Wani Pledges Hockey Revival under PM Vision

Pakistan Hockey Federation still in a shambles

ISLAMABAD, 04 MAY (DNA) —  President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Mohyuddin Wani, has reaffirmed his commitment to reviving Pakistan hockey in line with the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stating that all-out efforts will be made to restore the sport’s lost glory.

He expressed these views during a meeting with office-bearers of the  District Hockey Association Rawalpindi. The meeting was attended by senior sports journalist Zulfiqar Baig, DHA President Zaheer-ul-Haq, Secretary Tahir Shirazi and Treasurer Muhammad Zahid.

Mohyuddin Wani said a comprehensive strategy has been devised to promote hockey at school and college levels across the country. Under the plan, dedicated boys’ and girls’ development programmes will be launched under the supervision of qualified coaches in Rawalpindi and other cities to attract young talent towards the national sport.

He added that national and international hockey events will also be organised through sponsorship support to provide players with quality exposure and competitive opportunities. “The doors of the Pakistan Hockey Federation are open to every individual genuinely working for the betterment of hockey,” Wani said, stressing that collective efforts are essential for rebuilding Pakistan’s hockey legacy.

On the occasion, Zaheer-ul-Haq announced that a special hockey event in memory of former PHF President Pervez Aslam Kayani will be held at Shahnaz Sheikh Hockey Stadium. The event will be attended by Mohyuddin Wani, former Senator Chaudhry Tanveer Khan and Member National Assembly Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry as chief guests. The PHF president assured full support to all initiatives aimed at the improvement and promotion of hockey in Pakistan.— DNA
