DHAKA, AUG 24: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan and Bangladesh are “one family” and must move forward together, in response to a question on the events of 1971.
Speaking to the media in Dhaka, Dar was asked by a Bangladeshi journalist about historical issues. He responded by referring to a formal agreement reached in 1974, calling it a “historic document” that is held by both countries. He also recalled former president General (retired) Pervez Musharraf’s visit to Dhaka, during which he addressed the matter “with an open heart”.
Commenting further on the nature of bilateral relations, Dar said, “As it happens within a family or between brothers, we too are one family. We must move forward together to work in the best interest of the people of both nations.”
He added that once a matter is resolved, “Islam also teaches us to keep our hearts clean.”
This interaction took place alongside reports of progress in Pakistan–Bangladesh ties, with a joint working group formed to enhance trade between the two countries.
