Won't give even an inch of land to US: Afghan Taliban to Trump

KABUL, SEPT 21: Afghanistan has strongly rejected recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, warning Washington against any interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.

Officials stressed that sovereignty and territorial integrity remain their top priorities, and that no foreign power will be allowed to station troops on Afghan soil.

Taliban reiterate sovereignty as red line

In a statement, Afghanistan underlined that in all past bilateral negotiations with the US, it has made sovereignty and territorial integrity its most important condition. The government said it seeks positive relations with all countries based on “bilateral and common interests” within the framework of Sharia principles and an economy-oriented foreign policy.

The statement reminded Washington of the Doha Agreement, in which the US pledged not to use force or threats against Afghanistan’s sovereignty and not to interfere in its internal matters. Therefore, it is important that the US abide by these promises, it added.

Call for wisdom over failed policies

Deputy spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat echoed this message on social media, stressing that Washington must honour its commitments.

“Instead of repeating the failed experiences of the past, the US should adopt a policy of wisdom and realism,” Fitrat said. He reiterated that Afghanistan seeks constructive ties with other nations on the basis of balanced economic interests.

Foreign minister issues stern warning

Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi took a firmer stance in response to the US president’s comments, categorically ruling out any concession on land or sovereignty.

“Let alone Bagram Air Base, we will not give even an inch of land to the US,” Muttaqi declared. “We cannot allow any foreign army to come to our land. Even if the US recognises Afghanistan, we will not hand over an inch of territory.”

Earlier today, US President Donald Trump threatened Afghanistan if the Bagram Air Base was not returned to the US.

“If Afghanistan doesn’t give Bagram Airbase back to those that built it, the United States of America, BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN!!!” he wrote in a post to Truth Social.

The president did not elaborate on the potential consequences for the country.

On Thursday, the president stated that the administration is “trying” to reclaim the former US Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan “from the Taliban”.

In remarks to the press while standing alongside UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the president criticised former president Joe Biden’s handling of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan and announced “a little breaking news”.

“We’re trying to get it back,” Trump said. “We’re trying to get it back because they need things from us.”
