WASHINGTON, JAN 16: X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a worldwide outage on Friday, marking its second major disruption in a week, as users across the globe reported difficulties accessing the platform.
According to The Independent, both the website and app failed to load for many users, with several encountering blank screens. “Some users also saw Cloudflare error pages – though the issue originated with X itself, and was not related to previous Cloudflare technical problems,” the report added.
Reuters noted that as of 10:35am ET (8:35pm PKT), over 41,000 users in the United States had reported issues on Downdetector. In the UK, around 8,000 incidents were recorded, and over 2,400 users reported problems in India. Actual numbers of affected users may vary, as Downdetector relies on user-submitted reports.
X did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, thousands of users worldwide also faced access issues. The outage began around 9am ET (7:38pm PKT) and peaked at over 28,300 reported issues in the United States, before declining to roughly 700. The UK saw reports drop from a peak of 8,000 to about 130, while Canada experienced a decline from more than 3,200 earlier in the day, according to Downdetector.
This marks the second significant outage for X in a week, highlighting ongoing stability concerns for the social media platform.
