Sana’a, Yemen – The Yemen Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement outlining the government’s position on the ongoing conflict, warning that the activities of Houthi militias pose a grave threat not only to Yemen but to regional stability and international maritime trade.
According to the statement, the Houthis’ continued military and political actions endanger the security of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a vital corridor for global commerce. The ministry emphasized that the group’s destabilizing role extends beyond Yemen’s borders, threatening freedom of navigation and international shipping routes.
The Yemeni government highlighted that external military, financial, and logistical support for the Houthis has prolonged the war, undermined peace efforts, and worsened the humanitarian crisis. It called for respect for international law, implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and a stronger international response to violations, stressing that impunity only fuels further instability.
Despite the challenges, the statement reaffirmed Yemen’s commitment to a political solution as the “safest and most viable path” to end the conflict. Such a solution, it noted, must be based on ending the coup, restoring state institutions, and upholding Yemen’s national, regional, and international obligations.
The ministry urged the international community to consider the broader implications of the Houthi threat, particularly for maritime security and global trade, and to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in Yemen.
