86 PTI-backed lawmakers officially join Sunni Ittehad Council so far

ISLAMABAD, FEB 21: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) submitted on Wednesday the joining certificates of independent members aligning with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

According to details provided by the PTI Secretariat, a total of 86 independent members have pledged allegiance to the Sunni Ittehad Council for the National Assembly.

Simultaneously, certificates of 105 members of the Sunni Unity Council for the Punjab Assembly and 85 members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly have been submitted.

Moreover, the joining certificates of 9 independent members of the Sindh Assembly have also been presented to the Election Commission, further solidifying the Sunni Ittehad Council’s presence in key legislative bodies.

PTI set to conduct intra-party polls

On the other hand, PTI announced its decision to conduct intra-party elections within the next two weeks.

Sources privy to the development revealed that preparations are already underway, with the Election Commission of PTI expected to release the official schedule imminently.

The decision marks a significant step for PTI, as it gears up to hold elections within all four provinces, Islamabad, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Pending the approval of PTI founders, the forthcoming intra-party elections are poised to reignite democratic processes within the party’s framework.

Sources further disclosed that panel-wise candidates will participate in these elections, a testament to PTI’s commitment to inclusivity and transparency.

The hiatus in conducting intra-party elections, attributed to the exigencies of general elections, is now set to conclude with this resolute step by PTI’s leadership.

It is noteworthy that the Election Commission had previously invalidated PTI’s intra-party elections on two occasions, underscoring the significance of adherence to procedural integrity.

With the approval of intra-party elections, PTI is poised to assert its presence in upcoming by-elections, solidifying its stance as a formidable political entity.
